I am a bit of a geek um I believe in my earlier years I was absolutely an introvert but I would have to say of him very much an extrovert now but I’m also quite independent too um I am quite strong-willed that makes it a bit tough for hubby in some cases but I I do enjoy the markets and I do enjoy discovering also so I’m a little a reader I like numbers and I guess I’m a little a late bloomer too I believe yeah yeah and to the point that you’ve mentioned that you’re an introvert and how I believe I was a shy shy yeah obviously you’re you’re now an extrovert but how did you how did you shift in between that and you’re rather you’re put continuously out there putting yourself out there how did you shift between that
sure I think one of the things that people ask me or or get talked about a fair bit is that I appear to be a natural speaker that I’m quite good at public speaking however that absolutely was not always the case and it was a discovered skill for me so whether it was the um overcoming the nerves part or the part around body language and even called The Positive walk I believe all of those were um sort of taught abilities so it certainly wasn’t something that came naturally to me and I worked very difficult I guess to get that skill of having the ability to speak um and I think one thing that made a very big impression on me for somebody who was late Blue Moon introvert and relative really shy in my more youthful years was that everybody deserves to speak so to be able to reveal yourself in such a way that people comprehend I think was quite important to me and um I think that’s why I worked at the school and ideally I am better at it now than I was when I began I would absolutely say so um and how did you can you tell us a little bit about how you began in um Financing like why did you pick a profession in financing and what was the the very first point of contact in the financial world was there a parental influence or was this something that you were just constantly interested in I would enjoy to state that you know I constantly knew what I was going to do which was Finance but that was not the case at all I can return when I started working it wasn’t.
unusual just to fall into your profession for me I actually wished to be a lawyer from the time I had to do with 7 years of ages however at the time that I went to UNI there were many lawyers that the unemployment rate with law was so high that you needed to do a double degree um so that was sort of 5 years of a double degree plus an extra year of law school and after that 3 years practicing as a solicitor and I thought oh that sort of seem like an extra ten years so I in fact went and ended up studying business at UTS so um comparable to a Commerce degree um however throughout uni I um I operated at an Italian dining establishment and then I attempted to open an Italian dining establishment and to do that um I needed to secure a loan with a NAB and really I needed to pay back that loan when it didn’t work out so um I I saw an ad in the paper and it said do you wish to be a stock broker and I thought oh yeah that sounds respectable yeah we’ll give it a go we’re here we go and um you know I was fortunate in that sense because I I do love the work I love having the ability to understand organizations and to work in a market where you’re constantly being able to maintain to date with what’s occurring in the world what’s happening in terms of improvements in technology or biotechnology and science I think is an amazing thing so I love to read it and I never have a scarcity of stories to read when it concerns the markets yeah excellent and in between shift from oh I might wish to be a stock broker how did you become say inequities financial investment strategist how did that take place um existed.
did you work your method up to a certain position or did you just apply and after that start from there like how did that take place sure so um I think when it pertains to the financing world you sort of start everyone starts at a base level and then you move into the area that you have an interest in my area of interest is always markets and I took the view that um you know when I started I didn’t wish to simply um just sort of I think sell something that I was initially involved in so I made a big effort to walk the walk and speak with talk which suggests anything that I was discussing I I made the effort to actually trade myself or purchase myself too and I began in financing with the view that you understand in any occupation or in any profession it usually takes you about two or 3 years of learning to understand the lessons included and what was occurring in that kind of world so I I started a financial investment journal with the view that um you understand I wished to learn as much about investing as possible in a sort of two to three amount of time so in that amount of time I sort of gave myself or I permitted myself the opportunity to lose cash as I believed to myself for the two to 3 years um that the the objective wasn’t to make as much money as possible however the objective was to find out the ability of being able to earn money so that I can apply it for the rest of my life so that was a terrific duration for me and I I learned a lot of lessons I delved into essential analysis technical analysis understanding services taking a look at market analysis I also looked at things like choices trading which is a lot more risky however that was an excellent duration where I I sort of laid the foundation of going into Equity technique which I actually do delight in and the reason I take pleasure in being an equity strategist is I like understanding cycles and how that impacts on different organizations and the different.
organization environments also so um yeah it’s been a a long journey but one I I’ve definitely um taken pleasure in so I have actually gone from providing um things like essential analysis technical analysis tax efficient investing alternatives to heading up a fundamental analysis unit where I got to take a trip a lot to the US and after that I moved to Bell direct where I was Equity strategist there for 11 years and after that transferred to do my own funds management service birming invests which I sold in June and now here I am at State Street Global equities and consultants strategists for the ETF area well remarkable um during that duration when you mentioned um the two to 3 years of discovering how did you discover that your confidence was at first versus after the 3 years and how did you discover um the resources to uh inform yourself like nowadays we have podcasts um I make sure like prior to then we didn’t have too many resources offered as we do now and was it through books or uni.
