I am a bit of a nerd um I think in my earlier years I was definitely an introvert but I would need to state of him quite an extrovert now but I’m also quite independent also um I am quite strong-willed that makes it a bit challenging for hubby often however I I do love the marketplaces and I do like learning also so I’m a little a reader I like numbers and I guess I’m a bit of a late bloomer also I believe yeah yeah and to the point that you’ve pointed out that you’re an introvert and how I think I was a shy introverted yeah of course you’re you’re now an extrovert but how did you how did you shift between that and you’re rather you’re put constantly out there putting yourself out there how did you transition in between that
sure I think among the things that people ask me or or get commented on quite a bit is that I appear to be a natural speaker that I’m rather good at public speaking however that absolutely was not always the case and it was a found out skill for me so whether it was the um getting over the nerves part or the part around body movement or perhaps called The Confident walk I believe all of those were um sort of taught abilities so it certainly wasn’t something that came naturally to me and I worked really tough I think to acquire that ability of having the ability to speak um and I think one thing that made a very big impression on me for somebody who was late Blue Moon introvert and relative truly shy in my younger years was that everyone has the right to speak so to be able to reveal yourself in such a way that people understand I believe was quite important to me and um I guess that’s why I worked at the school and ideally I am better at it now than I was when I started off I would certainly say so um and how did you can you inform us a little bit about how you started in um Financing like why did you select a career in finance and what was the the first point of contact in the financial world existed an adult influence or was this something that you were simply always thinking about I would love to say that you understand I constantly knew what I was going to do and that was Financing but that was not the case at all I can return when I started working it wasn’t.
uncommon simply to fall under your profession for me I actually wanted to be a legal representative from the time I had to do with 7 years of ages however at the time that I went to UNI there were so many lawyers that the unemployment rate with law was so high that you had to do a double degree um so that was sort of five years of a double degree plus an extra year of law school and then 3 years practicing as a lawyer and I thought oh that sort of sounds like an extra 10 years so I really went and ended up studying organization at UTS so um comparable to a Commerce degree um but throughout uni I um I operated at an Italian restaurant and then I attempted to open an Italian restaurant and to do that um I needed to get a loan with a NAB and really I needed to repay that loan when it didn’t work out so um I I saw an ad in the paper and it stated do you wish to be a stock broker and I believed oh yeah that sounds respectable yeah we’ll try we’re here we go and um you understand I was fortunate because sense since I I do like the work I enjoy being able to understand companies and to work in a market where you’re continuously being able to keep up to date with what’s happening on the planet what’s happening in terms of advancements in innovation or biotechnology and science I think is an amazing thing so I like to read it and I never have a scarcity of stories to check out when it pertains to the markets yeah fantastic and between shift from oh I might want to be a stock broker how did you become say inequities investment strategist how did that occur um existed.
did you work your way as much as a specific position or did you just apply and then begin with there like how did that occur sure so um I think when it concerns the financing world you sort of start everybody starts at a base level and then you move into the area that you’re interested in my location of interest is always markets and I took the view that um you know when I began I didn’t want to just um just sort of I think sell something that I was at first associated with so I made a big effort to walk the walk and speak with talk which implies anything that I was discussing I I made the effort to in fact trade myself or purchase myself as well and I began in finance with the view that you know in any profession or in any profession it generally takes you about two or 3 years of learning to understand the lessons involved and what was happening in that type of world so I I began an investment journal with the view that um you know I wished to learn as much about investing as possible in a sort of 2 to 3 time frame so in that amount of time I sort of provided myself or I allowed myself the chance to lose cash as I believed to myself for the two to 3 years um that the the objective wasn’t to make as much money as possible however the goal was to discover the skill of having the ability to generate income so that I can use it for the rest of my life so that was a fantastic duration for me and I I discovered a lot of lessons I looked into basic analysis technical analysis understanding companies taking a look at industry analysis I likewise took a look at things like options trading which is a lot more risky but that was a terrific duration where I I sort of laid the foundation of going into Equity strategy which I actually do enjoy and the reason I enjoy being an equity strategist is I enjoy understanding cycles and how that influence on various companies and the various.
business environments also so um yeah it’s been a a long journey but one I I’ve definitely um delighted in so I’ve gone from presenting um things like fundamental analysis technical analysis tax efficient investing choices to heading up a fundamental analysis system where I got to travel a lot to the US and after that I transferred to Bell direct where I was Equity strategist there for 11 years and then relocated to do my own funds management organization birming invests which I sold in June and now here I am at State Street Global equities and advisors strategists for the ETF location well incredible um during that period when you mentioned um the two to three years of learning how did you find that your self-confidence was initially versus after the 3 years and how did you discover um the resources to uh inform yourself like nowadays we have podcasts um I make certain like prior to then we didn’t have a lot of resources readily available as we do now and was it through books or uni.
